Everton have lost ground to Arsenal in the race to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to the Daily Star.
The report suggests that manager Sam Allardyce is looking to improve other areas of his team, most notably up front and in full-back positions.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the player for some time as they go in search of a more defensively-minded midfielder.
N’Zonzi has expressed his desire to leave Sevilla after falling out of favour under their previous manager Eduardo Berizzo.
It is yet to be seen whether new manager Vincenzo Montella has a place for the French midfielder in his plans.
Everton had been linked with a move for the ever since Allardyce took charge of the club.
Allardyce worked with the player during his time at Blackburn and even tried to bring him into the England set-up while he was in charge of the Three Lions.
