Everton have announced their latest brand partnership with energy drink producers Monster Energy, and many fans have taken the opportunity to mock the club.
The Toffees had already found themselves as the punchline in a long-running mockery online after agreeing a deal that saw mobile game Angry Birds become their sleeve sponsor in 2017.
More sponsorships and partners for clubs have come hand-in-hand with the ever-growing commercialisation of the football industry, but many Everton fans feel like the timing of the announcement could have been better.
Having just lost 3-1 to Bournemouth on Sunday, the mood on Merseyside isn’t exactly high and cheery, so the announcement hasn’t been received all that well on social media with a number of fans reacting.
