Everton trio together as St Georges’as Garner joins Pickford and Branthwaite

There was a pleasing Everton feel to England training at St George’s Park today as James Garner joined Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Everton shared pictures of Garner and Branthwaite as preparations continued for England’s opening UEFA Nations League game against Spain at Wembley on Saturday night.

For Garner, who was added to the squad following several withdrawals, it is another reward for his excellent start to the season. The midfielder won his first two senior England caps in March and is now back in the fold alongside two familiar faces from the Hill Dickinson.

Three Everton players together with England

Pickford has long been established at international level, while Branthwaite is back in the senior squad after an impressive start to the season at the heart of David Moyes’ defence.

Tuchel has spoken positively about Branthwaite, describing the defender as a player with “big potential” and highlighting his pace, height, ability in possession and strong left foot.

Garner’s call-up means Everton have three representatives in the squad for an unusually busy international window, with England playing four Nations League matches in 11 days.

The sight of Garner and Branthwaite walking out together at St George’s Park was certainly one for Evertonians to enjoy, with Pickford completing a Blues trio who have all been important figures in the club’s unbeaten start to the season.

England begin against world champions Spain before travelling to Prague and Rijeka, then return to Wembley to face Czechia.

Whether all three Everton players see action over the four games remains to be seen, but having Pickford, Branthwaite and Garner together in an England camp is a nice reflection of the start Moyes’ side have made.

And judging by Everton’s pictures from St George’s Park today, Garner and Branthwaite seem pretty pleased to be there too.
