Everton player ratings: Manchester City (A)

I’m not going to lie to you, I spent my time today watching the City players rather than the Everton players, but I think many of you will let me off. Watching David Silva control the midfield as well as the attack for the entire game at his age was unbelievable, and being able to watch De Bruyne in person was incredible. Sterling and Sané have to be the quickest, trickiest players I’ve ever seen and I realised that Vincent Kompany may be one of the biggest ‘what ifs’ in modern history, as if he’d stayed fit he’d have probably been one of the best centre-backs of all time. The City team consisted of 11 players better than anyone we could even hope to field.

If anyone isn’t finished with the season by now for some reason, watching Bolasie miss the header that he did just for City to go up the other end instantly and score should just about turn the rest of the Everton fans off.
It was a day that ended with City’s players being applauded off of the pitch, which was definitely right by the way, and also summed up the outing for Everton.

Jordan Pickford – 4

Can’t say that anything was in particular his problem, as it never tends to be.

Séamus Coleman – 3

Not his usual cascading self today but nobody was their usual self today, not against the best team in the world.

Phil Jagielka – 3

You’re not conceding three goals in one half and getting a respectable rating, sorry Jags.

Michael Keane – 1

And you’re just not getting a respectable rating full stop.

Leighton Baines – 5

The only defender who showed a shred of what he can be every other week today was Leighton Baines, as he dealt with Sané admirably in comparison to his teammates and his tackling was much improved.

Morgan Schneiderlin – 4

Now don’t hurt me, but I thought Schneiderlin was actually alright today. He wasn’t his usual cowardly self and his passing was shrewd for the most part. Granted, his defensive work wasn’t ideal, but baby steps.

Wayne Rooney – 2

I genuinely do not remember a single pass he played. He was brought off quick enough into the second half as well.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 2

I’m home now and three hours from kick off I still don’t think Dom knows where he’s meant to be playing.

Theo Walcott – 3

It’s hard for any of the attack to do anything worthwhile when we have just over 15% of possession.

Yannick Bolasie – 2

Much like Walcott, Bolasie just couldn’t get in the game. Granted when he did he missed an open goal and then scored, so he’s nothing if not eventful.

Cenk Tosun – 3

He took him off again didn’t he.

Subs–

Tom Davies – 5

One of the only bright sparks of the day was Davies, as he came on and pushed the team forward with sheer tenacity if nothing else.

Beni Baningime – N/A

Oumar Niasse – N/A
