Everton register Nzonzi interest – but would he be a good signing?

Everton have reportedly registered their interest in Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi – but would the French midfielder be a good signing?

According to Italian newspaper Leggo, cited by HITC, the Toffees have alerted the Italian side over their interest in the World Cup winner, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal over the past 12 months.

Nzonzi is also wanted by Ligue 1 side Marseille, and a concrete move by Everton for the France international could depend on the future of current holding midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain since January and the French giants may well try their luck regarding the Senegalese midfielder again in the coming weeks.

Nzonzi could prove to be a good replacement for Gueye, however, at the age of 30, the Toffees may be signing the towering midfielder past his prime.

The former Stoke City midfielder has previous Premier League experience and proved in England that he can excel in one of the best leagues in the world.

However, with Nzonzi now in his thirties, Everton may well be wise to leave a potential move for the player and focus on bringing in a younger alternative if Gueye does depart Goodison Park ahead of the new season.
