Everton rejected chance to sign Harry Maguire and Andrew Robertson

Harry Maguire and Andrew Roberston both had fantastic seasons for Leicester City and Liverpool respectively last year, but both could have been playing for Everton if former boss Ronald Koeman didn’t reject the chance to sign the duo from Hull City.

Speaking on TalkSport, another former Everton manager, Sam Allardyce, revealed that the Blues had the chance to sign the two defenders after the Tigers’ relegation, but Koeman turned down the opportunity.

Fast-forward 12 months and Maguire is a big money target for Manchester United, having performed well for the Foxes, as well as England in the World Cup.

Robertson, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the league’s best left-backs and was a major factor in Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final.

With the transfer window set to close this afternoon, the Blues look likely to have Yerry Mina joining up with new left-back Lucas Digne, but things could have been different had Koeman decided to take up the chance to sign Maguire and Roberston.
