Everton scoop trio of awards

Everton scooped a North West Football Awards hat-trick last night, winning the Goal of the Season, Women’s Rising Star of the Year and Best Club Marketing prizes.

Phil Jagielka’s stunner in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield last season was voted, by Twitter users as last season’s best goal, while the judges decided that Everton Ladies’ Gabby George was the standout talent in the women’s game and that the emotive ‘We Are Chosen’ Season Ticket marketing campaign was the best around.

The home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, was the venue for the MBNA sponsored awards which celebrate the region’s brightest and best both on and off the pitch.

Fans from around the world used Twitter to vote for their ‘Goal of the Season’, and Jagielka’s 30-yard strike at Anfield’s Kop end was given the public vote after beating off the efforts of Philippe Coutinho and Juan Mata.

Everton Ladies and England Under-19 defender George won the Women’s Rising Star of the Year award, ahead of ex-Blues forward Nikita Parris now of Manchester City and Maz Pacheco of Liverpool.

The Club launched the heartfelt 2015/16 Season Ticket campaign entitled ‘We Are Chosen’ in late February, drawing inspiration from the saying “Evertonians are born not manufactured. We do not choose, we are chosen.”

The campaign brought the verse to life and attributed meaning to the words using powerful imagery of real fans. The film was the centrepiece of the campaign and showed a huge spectrum of real Evertonians, from a baby bump to adults, through the juxtaposition of the rollercoasters of going the match and real life experiences. The film also incorporated the players proudly exclaiming the famous verse as well as a behind the scenes look at the club.

The Blues have now won awards for their Season Ticket campaigns for the past three years.
