Everton scout Carlo Jacomuzzi has dismissed speculation that the club could move for PSV forward Hirving Lozano this summer, so what does this mean for Everton?
The Toffees were frequently linked with a move for Lozano last summer, both before and after his successful World Cup campaign, while the club were also said to be keeping tabs on him in January.
Director of football Marcel Brands brought Lozano to Eindhoven from Pachuca in 2017, and upon his appointment on Merseyside many assumed he would bring the Mexico international with him to Goodison Park.
With the club looking to spend big bucks this summer, and with Lozano having enjoyed a second successive fruitful season in the Netherlands, reports had emerged linking Everton with the 23-year old yet again.
However, talking to radio show Si Gonfia La Rete (as reported by Sport Witness), Jacomuzzi poured cold water on the speculation, saying:
Lozano to Everton? That was discussed last year because he knows the director.
Their scouts told him (Brands) to take him in the past, but the current rumours could be a move by his agent. As far as I know, Everton are looking at other players.
Everton not going after Lozano isn’t very surprising. Last season, the Blues faced heavy competition for the Mexican before no move went through. After a second successful season, many clubs above Everton in the pecking order will have registered an interest.
Everton’s failure to qualify for the Europa League last season is one of the key causes in creating issues like this. Without that elite level of continental competition to offer players, the club will continue to struggle to attract big names.
With Brands and Marco Silva have informed fans in the recent past that they have already identified their full list of transfer targets, it isn’t any real loss that Lozano isn’t be targeted, because the club undoubtedly have other players on their mind.
