Everton scouting Weston McKennie

Everton scouting Weston McKennie

Everton have reportedly had their eyes on Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie alongside some other clubs in the Premier League.

That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who revealed on Twitter that the Toffees, as well as Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leeds United, have sent scouts to watch the midfielder in action.

After revealing that Juventus are open to selling McKennie for over £20m, Jacobs said: “He’s a player who could well move to England in January but right now there is nothing advanced from any potential Premier League suitors.”

So while nothing may be in the pipeline as of yet, this does appear to be a deal that the Merseyside club could potentially look to get done during the upcoming winter transfer window.

After making 112 appearances for Schalke across their senior and youth sides, during which he scored nine goals and delivered 11 assists, the 24-year-old made his move to Juventus on an initial loan deal back in 2020, before joining on a permanent basis almost a year later.

With 89 appearances for the Italian club under his belt, prior to their midweek Champions League game against Benfica, the American has scored 12 goals and supplied four assists.

Described as a “leader” by David Wagner, the £37k-per-week midfielder has made 23 appearances in the Champions League throughout his career, scoring three goals and providing one assist, which is the sort of experience that a team like Everton could be very keen to add to their side.

Moving forward, if the Toffees’ scouting department feels that McKennie would be a suitable addition to Frank Lampard’s squad, the club should do all they can to beat their Premier League colleagues and land his signature in January should the opportunity arise.

matchday.
