Everton have had scouts in France, Portugal and Spain in recent weeks, according to Sport Witness, as they look to prepare for a foray into the January market.
The most recent of these ventures into Europe was last night, as scouts watched Rennes take on Marseille. Paul-Georges Ntep did not play for the home side due to an injury, but fellow Rennes winger Ousmane Dembele played and impressed, as Marseille took the spoils 0-1.
On top of that, Bordeaux’s Henri Saivet and Diego Rolan have been watched by the Blues recently, as well as Benfica and Villarreal.

Benfica possess a bright, young winger by the name of Gonçalo Guedes, as well as the more well known Nicolas Gaitan.
Villareal vs. Celta Vigo was another trip made by Blues’ scouts. The Spanish club have two young wide men: Matías Nahuel and Samu Castillejo.
A pattern can be seen emerging. Young players; all like chalk on their boots; all versatile; all could be obtained at a sensible price (Gaitan aside, perhaps).
Why a versatile winger?
Kevin Mirallas is the answer. He’s been linked elsewhere recently and has only started one Premier League game so far this season.
For that reason alone, a frustrated Mirallas can be understood.

There’s a certain European tournament coming up next summer too, and with his lack of game time, a selection for the Belgian side is looking unlikely.
A move away in January may just claw back that chance to help the Red Devils in France, or at least make the final squad.
Sense driven
From afar, it looks like a sensible decision. Sell an unhappy player and purchase one more hungry and eager for the challenge.
Whilst Everton continue to kick on in the league and domestic competitions, a decision like this may not be questioned. The experience and know-how of a player akin to Mirallas must also not go unappreciated.
