  • David Moyes hopes to add quality to his defensive unit.

David Moyes is preparing himself for a busy summer transfer window.

Heavy investment is expected at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with recent fixtures exposing Everton’s need to boost quality in the squad.

An area that is hoped to undergo a revamp is the defence, as full backs and central defenders have already been linked with a move to Merseyside.

One name that has been suggested is an England international who may push for a move away from Southampton, in light of their recent controversy.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis could be on the move

Saints defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis could look to force a move to the Premier League with his side failing to gain promotion from the Championship.

Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are amongst the teams showing an interest for the centre half, with the south coast outfit slapping a £20 million pricetag on the 24-year-old, according to TEAMtalk.

The Englishman has proven himself as an elite player in the second tier, with experience as Stoke City, Burnley and Southampton.

In this current season, Harwood-Bellis has also showcased his abilities in the opponents half and managed to bag seven league goals.

The ex-Manchester City defender was handed an international cap in his debut Premier League season, where he also scored in his first and only England appearance against the Republic of Ireland.

There could be more departures at Southampton

Southampton face a grim summer ahead with the increased liklihood of their stars leaving St Mary’s, following the Spygate fallout.

As links regarding Harwood-Bellis emerge, other star men such as Shea Charles and Leo Scienza could also leave the club.

Everton could take advantage of this and snatch a bargain in the process.

The upcoming window is an opportunity for Moyes to upgrade his starting options, but there will also be a priority on enhancing squad depth.

Midway through this season, the Toffees were punished for their lack of depth and they will not want to face a challenge like that again.

Harwood-Bellis would prove to be an addition that bulks up Moyes’ options, with the added bonus that he could be recruited for a relatively low fee.

More names from Southampton will be linked to the Blues, and there is a real opportunity to snatch quality players for an affordable price.
