Everton set to battle West Ham for Gedson Fernandes

Everton have reportedly gotten ahead in the race to sign Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes over West Ham, according to reports.

David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that the Hammers are behind Everton in the chase to sign the Portuguese midfielder, who is set to leave the club this window.

Fernandes looks likely to leave on an initial loan deal, before making the move permanent after 18 months.

No agreement has yet been made, but Everton are reportedly in talks with Benfica over a move.

Ancelotti wants to freshen up his team, and will meet with Marcel Brands to discuss potential targets, according to the report.

The Toffees need some fresh reinforcements this window, especially after the embarrassing cup exit to Liverpool on Sunday.

Everton could do with some new midfielders, and Fernandes could be a target.

He has struggled for game-time this season, but he has previous international experience and is a great talent, so could be a great signing for Carlo Ancelotti.
