Everton sign Ademola Lookman

Everton have completed their first transfer of the window, as Ademola Lookman joins from Charlton Athletic for an initial fee of £7.5m which could rise to £11m.

The 19-year-old, who has signed a four and a half year deal, is regarded highly by director of football Steve Walsh, who believes he has a bright future ahead, but he will linkup with the first team at Finch Farm.

It’s likely Lookman’s first appearance in blue could be for David Unsworth’s under-23’s, however, as the teenager is cup-tied for Everton’s FA Cup third-round game against Leicester City.

Charlton were said to be eager to loan back Lookman for the remainder of the season as part of the deal, but Yannick Bolasie’s injury is likely to see Ronald Koeman have him involved with the seniors.

Lookman has played 25 times this season across all competitions, predominantly as a left winger, though also often just behind or as the striker. He’s managed seven goals and two assists in that time, for a side that continues to waver around the middle of League 1.

More activity is expected from Everton during this window, with Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin a possibility with The Toffees expected to improve their previously rejected £19million bid.

matchday.
