Everton striker Cenk Tosun has reportedly been approached by Beskitas regarding his teammate Davy Klaassen, according to Turkish newspaper Sabah, as translated by Sport Witness.
The forward was reportedly asked about the availability of Klaassen, who is contracted with the club until 2022.
The Dutchman signed in August of 2017 and featured briefly in Everton’s 22-0 win in the preseason over ATV Irdning where teammate Tosun scored three times.
Last season, Klaassen appeared just seven times for the Toffees, four of those appearances being as a substitute. His lack of involvement in last year’s average campaign for the Merseyside team was due to injury problems and an inability to find form reminiscent of his days at Dutch champions Ajax.
At the team’s training camp in Austria, Tosu said Beskitas wanted to sign Klaassen but the Dutchman rejected an approach from the Turkish club.
Beskitas director Ali Naibi called me and asked ‘would Klaassen come to Turkey’ I spoke with him afterwards, but he said he doesn’t want to come to Turkey and the case is closed.
Klaassen is looking to leave Everton before next month’s deadline as he needs a location to get consistent first-team football and find his previous form, but clearly, Turkey is not his preferred destination.
With interest from Ajax regarding resigning their former captain, it seems likely that’s where the attacking maestro will end up should he leave Goodison Park later this summer.
