Everton star pens new deal at the club

Everton have confirmed that goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has penned a new deal at the club.

As confirmed on the club’s official website, the Dutch international will be committed to the Goodison Park club until 2020.

Stekelenburg has been a valuable squad member since he arrived from Southampton, following former manager Ronald Koeman to the club.

Last season, the number two provided competition for Jordan Pickford, who has cemented himself as the club’s number one.

The 35-year-old knows that he has a role to play in Pickford’s development and is looking forward to pushing him to become a better goalkeeper.

I understand my role and I will try to compete with Jordan and push him to continue to get better as well.

Pickford was a standout performer for Everton last season and after an impressive World Cup campaign, he is being linked with a big-money move to Chelsea.
