Everton star out for the season with knee injury

Reports in Iceland are suggesting that Gylfi Sigurdsson’s season is over after he injured ligaments in his knee during Everton’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend.

The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes despite some uncomfort in his knee, but the extent of the injury has turned out to be much worse than first thought.

It must be made clear that there has been no word from the player or Everton about the injury at this time, but Sigurdsson’s brother has apparently told Iclandic media that the ligaments in Gylfi’s right knee are damaged.

Whilst the news will be a huge blow for Everton as they look to end their season on a high, it will be an even bigger kick in the teeth for the player and his national side.

Sigurdsson was set to feature in the World Cup for Iceland, who have qualified for the tournament for the first time. If the injury is as serious as reports are suggesting, he will be unable to compete in Russia.
