Everton still hoping to beat Premier League rivals to young defender

Everton are still holding out hope that they can beat West Ham to the signature of Toulouse defender Issa Diop.

The Mirror reports that Marco Silva remains keen to sign the player this summer, despite the fact that West Ham have a deal agreed in principle with the defender.

Reports emerged yesterday that claimed the Hammers have agreed a €25 million deal, with talks well underway.

This has not wavered Everton’s interest, with Silva looking to re-shape his backline during the transfer window. There are concerns over the immediate futures of the likes of Ashley Williams, one of many Everton players to struggle last season.

Diop is one the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe and has attracted interest from the likes of RB Leipzig and Monaco in the past.

The 21-year-old is a French youth international has stood out during Toulouse’s campaign last season, where they narrowly avoided relegation to the second division.
