Familiar names could return if Everton investment search becomes full takeover

Some familiar names from Everton’s recent takeover saga could reportedly come back into the picture if The Friedkin Group’s search for investment eventually develops into something much bigger.

A View From The Bullens reports that if a buyer emerged with the financial strength and valuation to satisfy TFG, Everton could potentially find themselves in another takeover process.

Andy Bell and George Downing, MSP Sports Capital and other American investment groups are among the names suggested as parties who could become interested, alongside completely new bidders attracted by Everton’s Premier League status and the Hill Dickinson.

No suggestion of a new bid

There is an important distinction. This is not a report that Bell and Downing, MSP or anybody else has submitted a new offer.

Indeed, a representative for Bell and Downing said this week that, at this stage, a takeover or investment involving the Merseyside businessmen was not happening. What we do know is that TFG are working with advisers to find new investors.

The Financial Times reported this week that the process remains at an early stage and could result in a significant stake in Everton being sold, although there is no guarantee that any deal will ultimately materialise.

There is currently no evidence that TFG have decided to sell the club completely. But the latest claim raises an interesting possibility if their plans eventually move in that direction. Everton’s last takeover battle attracted several interested parties before the Friedkins eventually won the race.

If another one does emerge, some of those familiar names could conceivably come back into the conversation.
