Everton target Reinier set to sign new bumper contract at Flamengo

Everton target Reinier is set to sign a new contract with Flamengo, where he will have a sizeable buyout clause.

The Toffees’ interest in the 17-year old Brazilian was well publicised in the summer, with many reports having differing takes on the club’s attempts to buy the player.

Initially it had been reported that Everton had agreed a €30million deal with Flamengo that would see Reinier move to Goodison Park when he turned 18 in January.

It then emerged that Everton had offered €30million to Flamengo, although the Brazilian side had rejected it out of hand.

Ultimately the Blues couldn’t get a deal done for the midfielder, but it was expected that they would return with interest again in January.

According to journalist Jorge Nicola (via Sport Witness), that could be more difficult now with Reinier looking set to pen a five-year contract with a release clause of around €70million.

Nicola does also report that Everton did in fact bid €30million in the summer, although Flamengo didn’t even consider it as they believed it to be too low.

At this point in time Reinier would need to some kind of elite talent to warrant Everton paying a release clause that high.

Whereas Real Madrid can afford to spent absurd amounts of money on promising but unheard of talent like Vinicius Jr and Rodrgyo, Everton don’t have a bottomless budget.

For such a high fee, Reinier would wipe out most of the club’s budget and then some, so for now it appears as though a deal is dead in the water.
