Everton to battle West Ham for Moyes appointment

Everton will need to battle West Ham to land David Moyes in their search for a new manager, according to reports.

The former Toffees boss has emerged as a candidate being considered by the club as they look to find Marco Silva’s successor, with the Portuguese coach on borrowed time at Goodison Park.

With Farhad Moshiri currently unclear about who he should appoint as Everton’s new long-term manager, Moyes had been earmarked as someone who could take over until the end of the season while Marcel Brands identifies a list of potential long-term coaches.

However, Manuel Pellegrini has come under significant pressure at West Ham, and the London side are also considering their former manager to replace the Chilean in the London Stadium hot-seat.

According to Football Insider, both Everton and the Hammers have made preliminary contact with Moyes to assess his interest in taking over the respective managerial positions.

Mirror Sport reports that Moyes would be interested in listening to West Ham’s offer as he is hungry to return to management, while Football Insider claim that Moyes would prefer a return to Goodison Park.

The Scotsman has been out of a job since leaving West Ham at the end of the 2017-18 season, where he had been appointed as caretaker following the sacking of Slaven Bilic.

This story is a clear indicator of how far both Everton and West Ham have fallen, that they are both determined to appoint someone who is firmly in their past.

On a personal note, I’d much rather West Ham win this ‘battle’. Moyes would represent a dramatic backward step for Everton, and with the club’s history and resources, I’m confident that a better, more forward thinking option would surely be available.
