Everton tracking Celtic’s Tierney – but does Marco Silva need another left-back?

Everton are reportedly tracking in-demand Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney – but do the Toffees really need to sign another left-back this summer?

According to the Daily Record, cited by the Liverpool Echo, Premier League rivals Arsenal have had a second bid for the Scot rejected by the Hoops, with the reports claiming both Everton and Serie A side Napoli are tracking the player.

A move for the 22-year-old appears to be a strange one, especially considering Lucas Digne’s outstanding campaign under Marco Silva last season.

The Frenchman made the move to Goodison Park from Barcelona last August for a fee in the region of £18m and was the Toffees’ standout performer.

Digne was recognised for his impressive season on Merseyside by collecting the club’s Player and Players’ Player of the Season awards.

Tottenham have shown an interest in Digne in recent weeks, however, the Toffees should resist all offers for the France international ahead of the new season.

Experienced left-back Leighton Baines also signed a fresh one-year deal to stay at Goodison Park, so Everton appear to be set in that area of the pitch.

Funds that may be used on a deal to bring Tierney to Merseyside should be considered to strengthen other areas.

Silva is lacking in options at centre-back, with a natural goal scorer also needed at the club ahead of the new season.

The recent links regarding Tierney appear to be strange, and most Toffees fans will be hoping that the club can strengthen in other departments instead of splashing the cash to sign the Scotland international.
