Everton willing to offload Salomon Rondon

Everton have said goodbye to numerous players since the end of the previous Premier League season.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, it seems as though some details have been revealed regarding the Merseyside club’s stance on one player in particular in terms of a potential exit from Goodison Park.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Paul Brown gave a damning verdict on Salomon Rondon’s future with the Toffees, amid recent reports that the club have informed the Venezuelan that he is free to leave.

Rondon free to go

Brown said of Rondon: “Everton are certainly willing to let him go, it hasn’t really worked. It was Rafa Benitez who wanted him and that experiment just hasn’t really worked at all. Unfortunately, it’s not for the want of trying and he’s someone who’s put a shift in but he’s just not the player he was.

“He’s played more minutes than he thought he would get, or Everton thought they would need to use him for, but it’s clear his form isn’t going to improve, he’s had enough chances to.”

Rondon’s Everton woes

Everton signed the striker on a free transfer from Dalian Professional in August 2021. Since then, the 33-year-old has made 30 appearances for the club across all competitions but has only started 13 times.

Across those appearances, the Venezuelan has found the net on just three occasions, a far from stellar total.

Last season, of his 21 attempts at goal in the Premier League, only six were on target, leaving him with a lower shot-on-target percentage (28.6%) than the likes of Andros Townsend (45%), Ben Godfrey (33.3%) and Michael Keane (30%), who had a similar number of shots at goal.

As Brown mentioned, this highlights the opportunities that Rondon has had to prove himself, but he has failed to have much of an impact from a goalscoring point of view.

With the likes of Neal Maupay and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the squad, we feel that it wouldn’t be too much of an issue for Everton if Rondon were to be allowed to exit Goodison Park in January.
