Ashley Williams is in talks with recently-relegated Stoke City over a loan move to the Championship side.
BBC Sport report that Gary Rowett wants to sign the player this summer as he aims to add some experience to his squad.
Williams has fallen out of favour at Everton and has seen his place in the squad questioned.
The Toffees are in the market for a new central defender and have been linked with moves for Yerry Mina and Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles.
Williams is said to be open about dropping down into the Championship in order to fight for promotion with Rowett.
The former Derby boss is also hoping to bring fellow Welsh defender James Chester this summer, but Aston Villa have rejected the club’s opening bid.
Williams has been unable to recapture the impressive form he showed at Swansea after making the move to Goodison Park to join Everton.
