Ferguson likely to be in charge for Leicester cup game

Duncan Ferguson is expected to still be in place as Everton’s caretaker manager for the club’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Leicester next week.

Everton are still searching for a long-term replacement for Marco Silva in the Goodison Park dugout, after the Portuguese coach was sacked last week.

Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery and David Moyes are just some of the names to have been mentioned in the last few days as being potential options for the Toffees, as Farhad Moshiri looks for his fourth permanent manager since he joined the club.

Everton have already confirmed that caretaker Ferguson, who led the club to a 3-1 victory against Chelsea last weekend, is set to remain in the dugout when the Blues face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

According to the Liverpool Echo, it is also expected that Ferguson will remain in that position for the cup tie against the Foxes, with Everton taking their time to ensure they appoint the right man to resurrect the club’s season.

Ferguson won many plaudits for his enthusiastic attitude and for getting his players to work hard and battle against Frank Lampard’s side last weekend, and the club and the fans will be hoping for a similar approach against United on Sunday.

I’m glad that Ferguson is remaining in charge for the United game, because I feel like the club needed to ride that momentum with the Scot at the helm, but I have mixed feelings with him being in charge for the cup tie.

Leicester have been so destructive this season, and I want Everton to have the best chance at beating them, as it is likely the only competition that the Blues will be able to compete in this year.

Ferguson isn’t experienced, and if the club fail to beat United on Sunday, it could be difficult against Leicester. That said though, an important cup game also isn’t the ideal first game for a new manager, so maybe a degree of stability would aid the Toffees.

Either way, Everton have plenty to play for in the next few weeks as they continue their manager search, and hopefully Ferguson can continue doing such a great job in his temporary role.
