Ferguson likely to remain Everton boss for Arsenal clash

Duncan Ferguson expects to be in the dugout for Everton against Arsenal this weekend, while a deal for Carlo Ancelotti edges closer.

The Toffees are confident that negotiations can be finalised and rubber stamped in the next 48 hours, according to the Liverpool Echo, with the Italian now expected to be in the stands as Everton take on Arsenal at Goodison Park this weekend.

While Ancelotti will likely be announced as the club’s manager before Saturday’s game, the lack of preparation time means that Ferguson will likely lead the Blues against the Gunners.

Ferguson hasn’t yet had that confirmed to him, but the Scotsman has claimed that he feels as though it will be the case, saying:

I don’t know 100 percent.

I have talked to the owners and the directors. I would think I would be in for Saturday.

Ferguson has enjoyed a successful caretaker stint as Everton boss, having gone unbeaten in regular time in his three games in charge.

The Blues lost on penalties to Leicester on Wednesday evening, having fought hard to comeback into the game despite a 2-0 second half deficit.

Aside from the Moise Kean substitution debacle, no one can fault Duncan Ferguson for the job he has done in such a small space of time as caretaker boss.

Given how poor Everton had been under Marco Silva just days before he took over, for Ferguson to be unbeaten (in regular time) against Chelsea, Manchester United and Leicester takes some doing, and he deserves all the credit for the job that he has done.

He’ll have one final opportunity to get his Everton side firing on all cylinders against Arsenal this weekend before Ancelotti’s arrival, and I hope he can end his brief tenure with a bang.
