Marcelo Gallardo has distanced himself from speculation linking him with the Everton job.
The River Plate boss was one of several names to be considered by Everton owner Farhad Moshiri to succeed Marco Silva, with the majority shareholder having drawn up a shortlist of candidates for the position.
The Argentine has earned himself a solid reputation in his homeland over the last few years, having won 10 trophies with River Plate during his five-and-a-half year tenure.
Despite Everton having been believed to be keen on his services, the 43-year old has now moved to dismiss speculation that he could leave Argentina.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (via HITC), Gallardo said:
I never had doubts about my continuity. On January 2 I will be here and we will start the pre-season, which may be in Uruguay, Buenos Aires or the south of our country. I am not interested in generating any kind of uncertainty.
My desire is to continue and introduce myself on January 2. I told the players this morning. Beyond my contract that expires in December 2021, there are no clauses and we have a very cordial and emotional relationship with Rodolfo (D’Onofrio, the River president) and Enzo (Francescoli, director).

Following Vitor Pereira’s statement about remaining in China, Gallardo is the second manager to rule out Everton as an option in the immediate future.
Not much was really written about Gallardo, and he was only ever tentatively linked with the job, so his decision to remain in Argentina is no real great loss for Everton in the sense that he never seemed to be a concrete option.
Everton’s pool of potential options to replace Marco Silva is shrinking in size with every day, and that is positive for the Blues in that their search is beginning to narrow. The sooner the club can identify Silva’s successor, the better.
