Idrissa Gueye’s summer departure from Everton was an exit many fans expected, but very few if any actually wanted to see happen.
The Senegal international was heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, but such was his importance to Everton that the midfielder was forced to remain on Merseyside.

However it became too difficult to keep him at Goodison Park during the summer, with the chance to play Champions League football for a giant club likely too difficult to turn down for Gana.
Talking to BeIn Sports (via Sport Witness), Gana revealed that he was disappointed to not get the move in January, while he made clear that he was keen to respect Everton in not putting up a fight to force his way out. Gana said:
Of course, I was disappointed, but what was worse was to see my family even more disappointed than me.
It allowed me to stay focused and to tell myself that if it didn’t happen, there was a reason if God wanted it that way.
So I continued to work and respect the Everton shirt, the club who allowed me to play at that level, and I gave my all for them and for myself.
Responding to Gana’s words on Twitter, several Everton fans reacted positively, with many fans still sad to have seen the midfielder leave the club.
