Goodison is one of hardest to referee – Webb

Howard Webb has said the Goodison Park is one of the toughest places in the league to officiate.

Speaking on BT Sport, he named Everton and Stoke as the two hardest places to be a referee.

I’ve got to say it’s [Stoke] the hardest place in the Premier League, by a country mile in my opinion. The fans are hostile and it’s difficult for the away teams as well.

This [the Britannia Stadium] and Everton are the two where the fans impose themselves on the proceedings more than anywhere else.

Webb refereed 298 Premier League games in his career, with his first being in 2003. His most famous moment was refereeing the bad-tempered 2010 World Cup Final between Spain and Holland, where he set the record for most ever yellow cards issued in a WC Final (14).

Webb actually sent off former Everton defender Johnny Heitinga in that game, and he also took charge of the F.A Cup Final between Everton and Chelsea.

Everton’s next game is against Crystal Palace, who have come away from Goodison Park with three points on the last two occasions. The Toffees will want to get back to winning ways in the league after collapsing against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in their last PL encounter.

matchday.
