Gueye ‘agrees’ new long-term deal

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has reportedly agreed to sign a new five-year contract at Goodison Park, according to ESPN.

ESPN report that Everton are looking “to bring him in line with other top earners at the club and recognise his importance to the first-team.”

The midfielder’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed with Chelsea being linked with the player in the past.

Talks began with Ronald Koeman, but have been finalised since the Dutchman was shown the exit door after the 5-2 home loss to Arsenal.

The Senegalese international has shown a lot of quality since moving from Aston Villa, following the latter’s relegation from the Premier League in 2015/16.

He has been proving himself in the defensive midfield role, making more tackles and interceptions in 2016 than anybody in the top five European leagues.

The 28-year-old was an integral part of Everton squad last season, playing 33 league games out of a possible 38 for the Toffees.

With Everton now playing European football, Gueye can showcase his true ability and although results have not been the best for the Toffees this season, domestically and in Europe, Gueye is showcasing what he can do.
