Guy Mowbray rips into Allan for Everton diving

Guy Mowbray has ripped into Everton enforcer Allan for diving and receiving a yellow card in a sloppy outing from the ex-Napoli workhorse.

Allan found himself in an unfamiliar partnership with club-grown talent Tom Davies following a metatarsal injury to his usual box-to-box partner in Abdoulaye Doucoure.

His midfield counterpart opened the scoring early on to give Everton the lead after just four minutes, but a calamitous collapse in the latter stages of the game saw the Toffees capitulate in a 5-2 thrashing against Claudio Ranieiri’s new Watford side.

However, in pundit Mowbray’s view the result alone was not the only calamity on the field at Goodison Park as he singled out the Brazil international for his poor performance.

Fellow BBC pundit Chris Sutton was asking for nominations as to who could his win his “simulation game” live on BBC 505, and Mowbray duly responded by namedropping Everton’s experienced enforcer.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Mowbray singled out the Brazilian for his antics at Goodison Park in the defeat.

“Allan was at it for Everton yesterday, unfortunately,” he said. “Rightly booked.”

As much as the team at large is rightly to fault for such a poor late showing against the Hornets, it was as much a failure of individuals as anything else.

As is noted by Goodison News, Allan looked to be a lost and absent figure for large portions of the game and may be a sign of his reliance on a good relationship with his more advanced counterpart in Everton’s two-man pivot.

Most of Watford’s late goals came from counterattacks that Allan looked out of sorts and powerless to stop when faced with high pressing and runs from Watford players.

More will be expected of him in the future.
