Everton face Harvey Foster decision as academy midfielder catches the eye

Everton midfielder Harvey Foster is continuing to make his case for further senior opportunities after an impressive start to the Premier League 2 season.

The 19-year-old has started all four of Everton Under-21s’ league matches this term, playing 357 of a possible 360 minutes and scoring once. According to Goodison News, Foster is also in the final year of his current contract, potentially leaving the club with a decision to make over his future.

Foster continues to push at Everton

The numbers behind Foster’s season are encouraging. Goodison News, citing FotMob data, reports that the midfielder ranks highly among players in his position for shots on target, aerial duels won, touches and successful passes in Premier League 2.

His progress won’t be unfamiliar to David Moyes. Foster was involved with the senior side during pre-season and scored on his first appearance for the men’s team in the 4-0 victory over Dundee in July.

He subsequently revealed that Moyes had spoken individually to the academy players brought into the senior group and had taken an interest in their games. Foster has also been among the youngsters drafted into first-team training during the current international break, with several senior players away with their countries.

Competition for a place in Everton‘s midfield is considerable, so Foster’s immediate route into Moyes’s team isn’t straightforward. His performances at Under-21 level are at least ensuring he remains part of the conversation.

If the report over his contract situation is accurate, Everton also have a decision to make away from the pitch. Foster is doing his part by continuing to perform at academy level after already making an impression during his first involvement with the senior side.
