Holgate is determined to get Everton back on track

Mason Holgate is desperate to beat Watford this evening, as Everton look to get back to winning ways against the Hornets.

Everton looked to have found their footing once again when they faced West Ham last week, beating the Hammers 2-0 in a confident performance at Goodison Park.

However all that hard work was undone a week later, with the Blues losing 3-2 to Brighton at the Amex, further impounding the negative atmosphere on Merseyside.

With Everton to face the Hornets in the Carabao Cup later today, Marco Silva will feel that his future as manager of the club hangs in the balance, and he will be relying on his team to put in a strong performance.

Holgate has started both of Everton’s Carabao Cup games so far this season, impressing in his first Premier League start against Brighton at the weekend.

The 23-year old has admitted that Everton will benefit from not having long to dwell on their recent defeat, encouraging the side to immediately respond. Talking to evertontv, Holgate said:

It’s good that it’s a quick turnaround [after the Brighton game].

We’ve not got a lot of time to think about it and Watford is another big game. We’ll be ready for it.

It’s clear we want to do well in the cup, so it’s massive for us.

We performed well in our last game at Goodison and we’re looking forward to getting out there again.

Tonight’s game is so important, and it cannot be understated. Not just for Marco Silva’s future, but also for the club’s season, which at this point is largely reliant on decent cup runs.

Silva will undoubtedly name a strong side to face Watford this evening, as he’ll know just how much the game will mean for the fans, and here’s hoping the players he chooses to field are able to rise to the occasion, because Goodison Park atmospheres will only become more and more toxic if they don’t.
