Everton surrendered a second-half lead as Hull City came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at the MKM Stadium.
Thierno Barry put David Moyes’ side 2-1 ahead after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had cancelled out Joe Gelhardt’s opener, but Mohamed Belloumi equalised for Hull. The result keeps Everton unbeaten in the Premier League, although they had been on course for all three points after recovering from going behind.
Barry puts Everton ahead after Hull opener
Everton thought they had taken the lead before half-time when Brennan Johnson scored following a corner, only for the goal to be ruled out after a VAR review. The referee was sent to the pitchside monitor before Johnson was judged to have been offside and interfering with an opponent.
Hull went ahead after the break when Everton failed to clear, and Gelhardt beat Jordan Pickford. The visitors responded through Dewsbury-Hall, who met Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ cross from the right with a header past Konstantinos Tzolakis.
Barry then missed a chance from Jarrad Branthwaite’s low cross but made amends soon afterwards. Dewsbury-Hall played the striker through, and he finished past Tzolakis to give Everton the lead.
Belloumi earns Hull a point
Everton were unable to hold on, with Belloumi bringing Hull level after Elliot Stroud carried the ball forward. Moyes introduced Charly Alcaraz and Tyler Dibling late on as the visitors looked for a third goal, but neither side could find a winner.
Dewsbury-Hall finished the afternoon with a goal and an assist, while Barry was also on the scoresheet as Everton extended their unbeaten start to the league season.
