Idrissa Gueye to sign new Everton contract

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is to sign a new contract at Goodison Park amid transfer interest from so-called ‘bigger’ clubs.

The Senegal international signed for Everton from Aston Villa in 2016 and has since made 45 appearances for the Toffees, scoring twice.

Gueye is known for his energy and enthusiasm in making challenges in the midfield, and is crucial to Ronald Koeman’s pressing style, helping to win the ball back from the opposition further up the pitch.

The former Lille midfielder has Champions League experience and at 27-years-old should be approaching the best stage of his career — so with a good influence on the game in central midfield he would be a great signing for a club playing in the top tier of European football, even if only to add squad depth.

This impending new contract for the 45-cap Senegal man doesn’t guarantee that he will stay at Everton, but it does add some guarantee to how much the Toffees will be able to charge for his services should bids come in from higher up the table, or elsewhere in Europe.
