James McCarthy resumes training with Everton

Midfielder James McCarthy participated in Everton training as he continues to step up his recovery following his horrendous injury in January, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce.

McCarthy suffered a double leg break on 20th January at Goodison Park as Everton took on West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

The injury occurred when the midfielder was challenging for the ball with striker Salomon Rondon and he was stretchered off after a lengthy delay in play.

The 27-year-old is now nearing a return to action and took part in training at Finch Farm.

McCarthy is following a similar schedule to the one that was used by teammate Seamus Coleman, who also suffered a double leg break back in 2017 whilst on international duty.

Earlier in the year, McCarthy posted images on social media showing him back with a football at the training ground but he has now rejoined the group of players.

Everton will not want to rush Irishman back into action and will closely monitor his fitness before selecting him back into the first team squad.
