Everton defender Michael Keane missed his side’s defeat to Leicester because of an infection to his leg.
Speaking to Sky Sports prior to the Toffees’ game at the King Power Stadium, caretaker manager David Unsworth spoke of how Keane’s leg became infected following an injury sustained in the Carabao Cup game against Sunderland some time ago.
Michael got a knock; a really bad gash against Sunderland, and it got infected and spread up his leg.
It’s been really, really nasty and he’s been hospitalised. We got some good news when we got to the ground that there’s been a big improvement, so hopefully he can be available for Sunday’s game.

Keane has since played a plethora of games for both club and country, but it appears as though the injury has become progressively worse.
The England international’s absence was felt by his side, as they suffered yet another crushing blow against Claude Puel’s Leicester side.
Jamie Vardy scored the opener in Puel’s first game in charge of his new side, before Everton full-back Jonjoe Kenny converted into his own net, adding insult to injury for Unsworth and his men.
Everton currently sit in the bottom three of the Premier League, and will hope to have Keane back soon.
