Everton set to block Lukaku sale

Update: Liverpool Echo are now reporting that Everton have been left angered by Chelsea who are yet to make an official bid for Romelu Lukaku. The Toffees would not welcome any bid for their star striker and are in no need to sell.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is poised to block Chelsea’s move to re-sign striker Romelu Lukaku should a bid come in.

According to the Daily Mail, Koeman is unhappy with Chelsea’s futile attempts to unsettle Lukaku. The Toffees are set to approach any contact from Chelsea, which is yet to be officially received, in a similar way to how they dealt with interest in John Stones last summer. Three bids from Chelsea were rejected as then-manager Roberto Martinez convinced Stones that it was best for his career if he stayed.

Antonio Conte is in search of a new striker amid speculation that first-choice striker Diego Costa will rejoin former side Atletico Madrid this summer and is believed to have made an offer of £65m + Loic Remy for Lukaku.

Despite Lukaku publically revealing that he would like to leave the club, Everton are confident that they will be able to convince the Belgian frontman to remain at Goodison Park.

In hopes of the same outcome, Everton have opened contract talks with the 23-year-old and are looking to extend his current deal – which runs until 2019.
