Koeman wants to spend big in January after FA Cup exit

The Toffees’ 2-1 defeat against struggling Leicester City in The Third Round of FA Cup has left Ronald Koeman frustated, but he is seemingly winning the battle against the hierarchy over transfers, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Everton went down after taking the lead first in the 63rd minute with a goal from Lukaku. But Leicester quickly replied that in the 66th minute, before sealing the win five minutes later, with Ahmed Musa scoring a brace.

Ronald Koeman was fuming, hitting out at the board over January transfers. Since then, the Daily Mail have reported that Koeman is winning the battle against the top men at Everton, and could even chase a £20m deal for Michael Keane.

The Dutchman has asked the board to recognise how much change is required in the winter transfer window.

Koeman said:

“I know what we need to change and if everyone opens their eyes today maybe we will get further on our improvement as a team. Because that’s really what we need and that’s all about what happens this month.”

When asked about signing new players he replied:

“I have that in mind and the board knows because we spoke together about what we need. That’s the job of Steve Walsh and it’s my job.

I hope everybody realises what the team needs to play and to get results that meet the expectations at this club.

I can explain more but I don’t like to because that’s talks we need to do inside. But if a young player of 18 is today one of the best on the pitch then it says enough.”

Since that stern warning to the hierarchy, Everton are set to complete the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin before looking to complete a deal for Ishak Belfodil.
