Le Mans president won’t stand in way of Everton target’s departure

Le Mans president Thierry Gomez has revealed that he wouldn’t stand in the way of Stephane Diarra if he received the right offer for him this month.

The Sunderland Echo report that Everton and Newcastle are both interested in the 21-year old, while the Daily Record claim that Celtic are also in for the Frenchman.

Speaking in the French media, as reported by the Sunderland Echo, Gomez revealed that while he doesn’t want to see the Ligue 2 star leave Le Mans, he would give the starlet his blessing should a transfer come to fruition. Gomez said:

For now, we haven’t received any offer. Stephane also knows where he comes from. If anything were to happen, it would be with our support.

The subject isn’t relevant now. We’re entering a month that can bring up a lot of hope but also a lot of danger, so let’s stay focused on the next games, including the one against Caen on Friday night.

Gomez’s comments should give Everton some comfort in the knowledge that the club aren’t prepared to pay hardball, should the Toffees make an appropriate offer.

Diarra has primarily played on the right side of midfield, or as a right winger this season (Transfermarkt), which would make him someone worth looking into. Marcel Brands spoke out about positions that need strengthening at the club’s AGM earlier this week (Liverpool Echo), specifically mentioning the club’s thin depth in the wide right position.

Everton still need to prioritise other areas before they consider looking at right sided players, with a central midfielder and a centre-back absolute must haves this month. However, for the right price, I’d be willing to put my trust in Brands over a young and promising starlet.or the Ligue 2 side.
