Luiz move has threatened Tomori deal – Who will Everton sign?

Arsenal’s deal for David Luiz appears to have put an Everton move for Fikayo Tomori on hold, reports the Telegraph.

We reported yesterday that with the Brazilian defender looking set to switch Stamford Bridge for the Emirates, it was likely that any prospective deal for Kurt Zouma was dead in the water.

The Frenchman would be expected to play a major role for Frank Lampard’s side this season, with the former England midfielder unable to bring any new players to the club with the Blues under a transfer ban.

However the Telegraph now report that Luiz’s move will have also impacted negotiations over Tomori, who Everton were targeting on a loan deal.

As things stand, Tomori could be required to remain at Stamford Bridge to ensure Chelsea aren’t left short at the back ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

David Luiz has seemingly done a wonderful job of disrupting Everton’s transfer plans so late into the transfer window, and it does make you question why Everton have left so much business so late into the window.

Tomori hasn’t been the most inspiring of options anyway, with the England youth international having very little experience of Premier League football. However, this will now force Everton to look elsewhere, which could rush the club into making a decision that hasn’t been well considered.

Everton have undoubtedly had a fantastic transfer window, but the club will still need to find a defensive option to really ensure they don’t pay for inactivity over the next six months.
