Manager turns down Everton to wait for Premier League rivals

Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca has reportedly turned down the manager’s job at Everton as he holds out for the Arsenal hot seat.

The Express are reporting the claim made by journalist Guillem Balague, and Fonseca appears to be a man who is well sought-after.

In a video on his personal YouTube channel, Balague said:

Even though his time at Shakhtar Donetsk didn’t start very well, I think he was knocked out of the qualifiers of the Champions League, you’ve seen a different Shakhtar Donetsk since.

It’s something that has been observed by Premier League clubs, including Everton. Everton approached him and he said no to Everton. Why? Because he is thinking of Arsenal. He has been told Arsenal are interested in him.

Fonseca joined the Ukranian outfit in 2016 and completed the domestic treble in his first season, winning the league, Ukranian Cup and Ukranian Super Cup.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce signed a contract until June 2019 when he joined the Toffees following the sacking of Ronald Koeman in November.

In terms of Arsenal, Fonseca is reportedly a potential candidate to take over from Arsene Wenger, but the current favourite for the job is Massimiliano Allegri.
