Mills believes Schneiderlin is a liability – is he right to think so?

Pundit Danny Mills has slammed Morgan Schneiderlin for showing poor discipline against Manchester City, labelling him a liability.

The Everton midfielder started alongside Fabian Delph against Pep Guardiola’s side, being substituted for Tom Davies with ten minutes remaining.

Schneiderlin is a divisive player among the Everton fan base, with many people equally wanting Everton to sell the Frenchman as those who want him to remain at Goodison Park.

Mills believes that the midfielder’s disciplinary record (he was booked against City for scything down Kevin De Bruyne) is a problem for Everton. Schneiderlin has already been sent off this season, in the opening game against Crystal Palace.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mills had this to say on the former Manchester United midfielder:

From time to time, he does make some daft challenges that he doesn’t need to make. He’s a good player, his disciplinary record isn’t fabulous and you can get sent off so easily in this day and age, you’ve got to be so, so careful.

You don’t want to be running the risk week in, week out of putting your team under pressure. That’s the problem, what you don’t want. Letting the team down can cause you a real problem.

It’s hard to disagree with Mills. Personally I’m a Schneiderlin apologist, I think he has something to offer if he is utilised in the right way on the right occasions. However, it can’t be denied that he can be clumsy, and his head can also go if he gets riled up.

His sending off against Palace was testament to this, coming out of nowhere and completely unnecessary. The Frenchman is a hard hitting and committed battler, but that doesn’t always pay off when the midfielder ends up being given his marching orders.
