Monaco don’t have January recall clause for Sidibe

Monaco cannot recall Djibril Sidibe from his season-long loan spell with Everton in January, the Liverpool Echo have confirmed.

Speculation over Sidibe’s future has been rife in recent weeks, with French and Italian media claiming AC Milan interest may cause Monaco to recall the right-back in order to sell him once the winter window opens.

Reports also claim that Sidibe is ‘unhappy’ with his current situation with the Toffees, with the World Cup winning full-back having only featured in the Premier League twice this season.

The Liverpool Echo however has discovered that the principality outfit don’t have a recall option in Sidibe’s loan agreement, meaning they cannot bring him back to the Stade Louis II in January.

Everton do have a permanent option attached to the deal though, with the Echo understanding the Blues can extend Sidibe’s stay on Merseyside for a fee in the region of £13million.

The France international started his first Premier League game last weekend as Everton beat West Ham 2-0, and following his impressive display the full-back looks likely to keep his place against Brighton on Saturday.

This is great news, if not for Everton but for me not having to cover stories concerning a January exit for the Frenchman anymore.

So much has been written about how Sidibe will surely leave in the winter because he is wanted elsewhere, but we finally know that those reports are wide of the mark, and that we can count on the defender for the season at least.

That’s definitely a good thing, too. Sidibe impressed against West Ham, offering good offensive and defensive work while forging a solid relationship with Theo Walcott down the right-hand side.

If he keeps his spot against Brighton, and he should, we can hopefully expect him to continue developing and improving week on week as he beds himself into the Premier League, which will benefit the club going forward.
