Farhad Moshiri confident over Lukaku contract situation

Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has moved to calm fans following news that Romelu Lukaku will not sign a new deal at the club.

It broke on Tuesday that the Belgian striker had refused a new deal at the club and could now leave in the summer.

Though there are suggestions it is due to the lack of Champions League football, reports stress that Lukaku has only refused to sign the deal on the table.

There is still a chance that Lukaku and the club will come to an agreement but it is thought the disagreement comes over a potential release clause.

Since then, Moshiri has moved to calm fans after the social media was awash with disappointed Evertonians.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Moshiri explained:

‘It’s not an issue. The club is confident with the strong relationship it has with the player and the agent.

‘He has over two years left on his contract and the new, improved contract is recognition of what he’s done for the club. No one should worry, he is our player.’

Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola has reiterated at several points that the player will sign a new deal and according to Sky Sports on Tuesday, a deal had been agreed between all parties and only the formalities remained.

This would mean that something had changed in the last 24 hours of negotiations.
