Netflix to release documentary about ex-Everton magician

Share
  • James Rodriguez was a star man for Everton in the 2020-21 season.
  • He scored six goals and registered nine assists in 27 games for the Toffees.
  • Netflix announces it will be releasing a documentary on the Colombian legend.

James Rodriguez’s time at Everton was brief, but his impact was immense.

In Carlo Ancelotti’s only full season on Merseyside, he recruited the attacking midfielder for the Blues and was the beating heart of their attack.

Evertonians did not get to witness the Colombian international in person, yet they have fond memories of his special performances.

At 34 years old, the midfielder is coming to the end of his career, and Netflix has honoured his wonderful career.

Netflix to release documentary about Rodriguez

Netflix has announced they are releasing a documentary about Rodriguez’s career on 21 May.

The doc will dive into his journey after becoming one of Colombia’s greatest players, as well as his time at iconic clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Sergio Ramos, Radamel Falcao, and Marcelo are just some of the names who feature in the film, discussing their thoughts on the magical midfielder.

Rodriguez currently plays for Minnesota United – formerly managed by Adrian Heath – in the MLS, but has his firmly fixed on the upcoming FIFA World Cup, where he hopes to appear at football’s biggest competition for a third time.

Since leaving the Toffees in 2021, the Colombian has played for six different teams across Qatar, Greece, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, and the United States.

Where would Rodriguez fit in this current Everton side?

Out of many of the disappointments that Everton have dished up in recent seasons, their supporters not being able to watch Rodriguez in person is one of them.

He did appear in a friendly match against Manchester United at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, but with the arrival of Rafa Benitez, it was clear there was no place for the midfielder in his side.

Following the Colombian’s departure, there were many times when the Toffees could have used his quality in both open play and from set-pieces, yet in truth, he might have struggled in a team that was in constant relegation battles and found themselves on the back foot for the majority of matches.

Now that Everton are pushing for Europe, Rodriguez would thrive as a luxury player and present himself as an ideal impact player.

But with fond memories of Colombia’s star man, a return to Merseyside remains unlikely.
