Former Everton winger Pat Nevin has noticed a problem at Goodison Park.
The ex-Scotland international played for the Blues between 1988 and 1992, and has looked at the atmosphere on Merseyside, claiming there is a disconnect between the fans and the club.
Everton have put their fans through some tough times this season, consistently failing to meet expectations that the club should be meeting. Following a summer of spending, many Everton fans feel the club should be much higher than 15th in the Premier League table.

Marco Silva has come under plenty of pressure, and the fan base have been critical of the performances of a number of the club’s senior stars.
Talking to Chelsea’s website (via HITC) about their recent positive spell, the 56-year old touched on his former club’s flipped situation, claiming that the silence has been deafening at Goodison Park this season. Nevin said:
I was at Everton the other week and the silence was deafening in the first half of their game against Spurs.
There has been a breakdown in that relationship and it can be hard to build again unless those fans, who are normally so partisan, can truly believe in the mission.
The effect of a special atmosphere is obvious, just look at the reaction to being 4-1 down to Ajax when the fans stayed onside! There is a feeling that something special is happening at (Chelsea) just now and everyone should feel that they’re a part of it.

Nevin is correct in his comments, but it definitely isn’t the fault of the Everton fan base. Everton, the club, haven’t worked to keep the fans onside this season, and comments from players and Marco Silva offering useless plaudits haven’t helped.
Everton have also been at their best when their fans are behind them and making Goodison Park a bear pit, and that hasn’t been the case for some time.
While the fans could do with increasing their support and making the atmosphere at Goodison Park less toxic, Everton firstly need to deliver for the fans and give them some hope and something to support.
