  • Everton’s summer transfer window saw several players enter the Hill Dickinson.
  • Toffees recruited likes of Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall to boost quality and depth.
  • Moyes has fielded the fewest players in the Premier League this season.

The recruitment by David Moyes in the summer of 2025 has proven to be a mixed bag this season.

While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish have been a revelation for Everton, the likes of Tyler Dibling and Merlin Rohl have struggled to gain any consistent minutes for the Blues.

There have been certain points in the year when Moyes had the opportunity to turn to his bench and give some of his fringe players a chance to prove themselves on the pitch, but the Scotsman chose not to do so.

A stat has been revealed that highlights Everton’s manager has not been making the most out his squad depth this season.

Moyes has fielded the fewest players in the league this season

Everton have fielded 22 players in the Premier League this season, which ranks them at the bottom of this metric, according to Opta.

To add to this, they have made 54 changes to their starting XI this campaign, with only Nottingham Forest making fewer changes.

A name that will stick out to many on this list is Adam Aznou, who arrived at Hill Dickinson Stadium with a lot of promise, but has since been given very few chances to prove himself in the Everton first team, and has made one appearance for the Blues, in their FA Cup defeat against Sunderland.

Does Moyes trust the depth in his squad?

A stat like this pinpoints that Moyes is not using the full capacity of his squad, and while this might signal he is happy with his core players, it also suggests that he does not want to use those on the fringes.

For players such as Seamus Coleman and Mark Travers, this is only natural, but when there is young talent like Dibling, Aznou, and Rohl who are not getting consistent chances on the pitch, then it might mean it is simply not working out for them on Merseyside.

Many do not know what goes on behind the scenes at Everton, and Moyes gets to assess his players thoroughly on a daily basis.

But with just four games to go and the likelihood of his younger players not receiving any more game time being low, it begs the question as to what their future looks like at the Toffees…
