Pickford: I’m strong enough to not let mistakes affect me

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been reflecting on previous errors after last night’s man-of-the-match display against Huddersfield Town.

Goal write that Pickford is insistent his mistake to gift Liverpool a last minute winner in December’s Merseyside Derby has not affected his confidence.

The 24-year-old was unable to deal with a high ball in the sixth minute of stoppage time that day, allowing Reds striker Divock Origi to tap home in front of a delighted Anfield crowd.

Since then, his form had taken a turn for the worse, with the Blues keeping just one top-flight clean sheet in nine attempts before last night’s shutout in West Yorkshire.

The England international produced a number of fine saves to keep out the Terriers at the John Smith’s Stadium last night, meaning the Toffees find themselves back in the top half of the Premier League table.

When asked whether the mistake had affected him at all, Pickford replied:

No, not really. It doesn’t affect me, stuff like that. I know if I’ve done good or bad in games and I’m mentally strong. It’s probably the strongest thing in my armoury. It doesn’t affect me. I just put on performances and try my best every game.

The ex-Sunderland man will be hoping for more of the same when Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Goodison Park on Saturday.

matchday.
