Praet issues warning to Everton ahead of cup quarter-final

Leicester midfielder Dennis Praet has issued Everton a warning ahead of their EFL Cup quarter-final clash this evening.

The Foxes travel to Goodison Park as the Toffees look to continue their resurgence under Duncan Ferguson, having beaten Chelsea and drawn with Manchester United in their previous two fixtures.

Leicester meanwhile drew against Norwich on the weekend, ending a run of eight consecutive wins for the club, who are currently second in the Premier League table.

Everton are close to confirming Carlo Ancelotti as their next manager, but Ferguson’s reinvigoration of the playing squad has been such that many fans have been calling on the club to hand the Scot the job on a permanent basis.

Speaking to LCFC TV (via Leicester Mercury), Praet acknowledged the improved performance of the Everton squad, claiming that he is expecting a tough match-up. Praet said:

Yes, I think that will be a big test, maybe the toughest we’ve had in the Carabao Cup.

Everton are a really good team. I think now they’re doing better in the Premier League so it will be a hard and tough game with Everton.

I think they weren’t doing too well in the Premier League but their gaffer changed and now they’re doing better.

They’ve got some good results now so you know it will be a tough game.

Despite drawing with Norwich at the weekend, with the Canaries in the relegation zone, Praet has warned Everton that his side have no intention of slowing their momentum, with Rodgers’ men still unbeaten in ten. Praet continued:

We had a really good run, we’ve played now with 1-1 against Norwich – but that doesn’t end our momentum.

We have to keep going how we were doing and we’re going to Everton to win the game.

Leicester are going to be an incredible difficult team to face tonight, and Everton will need to be at their absolute best if they hope to progress to the final four.

Having Ferguson in the dugout will be a huge help, because he’ll demand high level performances from his players and he will give no quarter to those who are underperforming and letting the side down.

Rodgers has turned his Leicester side in a formidable and extremely difficult to beat side, that are energetic and dangerous in attack. With progression on the line, it’ll be a long 90 minutes, but the Blues almost beat them in the Premier League under Marco Silva earlier this month.

It is doable, but we can’t afford silly mistakes. Under Silva I’d have had no expectations of success, but under Ferguson I’ll have my fingers crossed.
