Everton are now in talks with both RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim over the sale of striker Thierno Barry, with the Toffees holding out for a fee between £30m-£35m.
The Blues signed Barry from Villarreal for around £26m last year, and any deal below their current valuation would represent a financial loss on that outlay, which they are looking to avoid. According to a fresh update from Fussballdaten, both Bundesliga clubs have now entered official discussions with Everton over a potential summer move.
The interest from Leipzig won’t come as a surprise to those who’ve followed the saga closely, with the Bundesliga side having already been linked with Barry in earlier reporting this transfer window. Hoffenheim’s involvement, however, marks a new development, with the Sinsheim club now also pushing to bring the striker to Germany.
Why Everton are holding firm on price
Everton’s valuation of Barry reflects a straightforward calculation: anything under £265m would be a straight loss, while a fee in the £30m-£35m range would represent a profit relative to what was paid to Villarreal. With two German clubs now reportedly in the race, Everton may find themselves with some leverage to push for the higher end of that valuation, particularly if Leipzig and Hoffenheim end up competing against one another for his signature.
Barry has yet to feature for Everton at senior level domestically beyond his initial squad involvement, and a departure this summer would mark a quick turnaround on last year’s deal. Talks are continuing, with no agreement yet reached between the parties.
